Adventure Elopements – What To Bring With You

RESOURCES

Congratulations on your elopement adventure!

So you are eloping and you have decided on an Adventure Elopement in the mountains. Most likely you are an outdoorsy person and you have an idea of what you need to bring when you are adventuring in the Rocky Mountains but I am here to remind you or maybe you just don’t know. When entering the mountains for any reason you should always be prepared for your safety, and its important to bring all the things for that as well as for your elopement. For every couple’s elopement I provide a customized list of what that will need to pack for the day, depending on the season, the activities and the location, but a general list is helpful to get started.

To make sure you have an amazing experience, here are some items you might want to bring with you:

  • Marriage license (If you are doing all the legal bits)
  • Pen (for signing)
  • Proper footwear – either good hiking boots with traction or a hiking runner designed for trails
  • Layers ( leggings under dresses, warm socks, jackets) and gloves/head covering (ie toques/beanies)
  • Headlamps or a flashlight that is NOT your phone (phones die)
  • Compass (you don’t want to get lost if we were separated for any reason)
  • Trail map downloaded for offline use
  • A sturdy backpack for carrying all that you need
  • Hand & feet warmers
  • Battery Charger for your phone
  • Water!!! (More than you think you need!!)
  • Bear Spray (I bring mine, but if we get separated you are going to want yours as well – there are bears and mountain lions that you may need to protect yourself against)
  • Champagne or your celebratory beverage of choice (Champagne makes a nice POP photo op, or sparkling water if you are not a consumer of alcohol)
  • Blanket, for warmth and a picnic or snack break
  • Poloroid Camera – to document silly moments and they are just super fun
  • First Aid Kit (just in case)
  • Your dog(s)…I mean you love them and I love them and they should be there

I also firmly believe in LEAVE NO TRACE policies when it comes to adventuring in the mountains and our National Parks so I highly encourage everyone to familiarize yourself with those policies here.

Most importantly, remember to bring your sense of adventure and enthusiasm for the outdoors! Have a wonderful time! Take it all in and enjoy the scenery, each other, and whatever happens out there it’s all a part of your EPIC Adventure Elopement Story you can tell your grandkids, or anyone because maybe you are not even having kids! 😉
