INTENTIONAL, HORSE-LED PORTRAITS — WHERE CONNECTION MATTERS MORE THAN CONTROL

THE ALBERTA EQUINE PHOTOGRAPHY EXPERIENCE

ALBERTA EQUINE PHOTOGRAPHER FOR EXPERIENCE-LED, HORSE-FIRST PORTRAITS

Horses aren’t a phase for me. They’re in my blood.

I’m a born-and-raised Albertan, lifelong horse person, and photographer who understands that horses aren’t props — they’re partners, teachers, and often the reason we build our lives the way we do. My equine work is rooted in connection, patience, and deep respect for the animal, the land, and the relationship you share.

Whether we’re photographing quietly at home, out in the open landscape, or creating something more intentional and artistic, this experience is about capturing what’s real — not forcing moments that don’t belong.

WHY EQUINE PHOTOGRAPHY IS DIFFERENT HERE

Horse people notice everything.
So do I.

I don’t rush sessions, over-handle horses, or expect them to perform on cue. I read energy, wait for the moments that matter, and let things unfold naturally. Some of the most meaningful images happen in the pauses — the breath, the lean, the quiet exchange that only exists between the two of you.

This work isn’t about perfection.
It’s about trust, presence, and honoring the bond you’ve built.

HOW I APPROACH EQUINE SESSIONS

TYPES OF EQUINE SESSIONS I OFFER

Years spent around horses have taught me patience, timing, and how to stay steady when plans shift. That matters just as much in photography as it does in the barn.

  • You can expect:
  • A relaxed, unhurried session
  • Plenty of time for your horse to settle
  • Minimal posing, gentle guidance when needed
  • Space for real moments to happen naturally

If your horse needs a break, we take one.
If the light changes, we adapt.
If something unexpected happens — we roll with it.
Horse & Rider Portraits

Honest, grounded images that reflect your connection — not stiff poses or forced moments.

At Liberty

Quiet, patient sessions that allow horses to move freely and be themselves. These sessions prioritize safety, calm energy, and letting the horse set the pace.

At liberty sessions are guided by the horse first — not the backdrop.

Because these sessions often take place in indoor arenas, outdoor arenas, or paddock pens, background conditions can vary widely depending on location. Commercial barns and shared facilities may include visual elements such as fencing, signage, footing marks, equipment, buildings, or other structures that are outside of my control.

I do not remove or alter backgrounds as part of standard editing. This includes cluttered, busy, or visually unappealing surroundings in both indoor and outdoor spaces.

If a cleaner or more minimal aesthetic is important to you, I’m happy to:
  • help you choose a more suitable location, or
  • discuss custom background cleanup as an additional editing service, quoted separately.

Lighting is also an important consideration. Indoor arenas often have limited or uneven light, which will influence the final look of the images. I work with available conditions to create the best possible result, but lighting limitations are part of the environment and are not considered a flaw or error.

By booking an at liberty session, clients acknowledge and accept these variables as part of a horse-led, experience-first approach.

Fine Art on Black

Minimal, dramatic, and timeless portraits that strip everything back to the horse itself. These are slow, intentional sessions focused on expression, shape, and presence.

Each session is shaped around the horse in front of me — not a formula.

Grounded. Calm. Experience-led.

USING MY HORSES IN A SESSION

Horse Use & Rental Disclaimer

For select sessions, I offer the option to work with my horses.

This is available for:
  • Couples
  • Portrait clients
  • Fine art or creative projects
  • Those who don’t have access to a horse but want an authentic equine experience

My horses are calm, well-handled, and deeply loved — and their care and safety always come first. Sessions using my horses are fully guided by me, with clear boundaries around handling, positioning, and timing.

This is not a prop-rental situation.
It’s a carefully managed, experience-led collaboration.

Horse rental availability is limited and offered only when it’s the right fit for the concept, location, and conditions.
Use of My Horses

For select sessions, clients may have the option to work with my horses. These sessions are carefully managed and guided by me at all times. My horses are not props and their safety, comfort, and well-being always come first.

Participation in any session involving horses comes with inherent risk. By booking a session that includes the use of my horses, clients acknowledge and accept these risks and agree to follow all instructions provided before and during the session.

I reserve the right to modify, pause, or end a session at any time if conditions are unsafe, a horse is uncomfortable, or circumstances change. Horse rental availability is limited and offered only when it is an appropriate fit for the concept, location, weather, and the horses themselves.

A separate agreement and liability waiver will be required for all sessions involving my horses.

THE KIND OF PEOPLE I CLICK WITH

BOUNDARIES

I do my best work with people who live this life — or deeply respect it.

Those who value connection over perfection. Who understand that horses have opinions. Who care more about how something feels than how it looks on paper.

I live to laugh, love hard, and do things my own way — and if that sounds familiar, you’re probably my kind of people.
If something unexpected happens — we roll with it.
Clear limits, good balance, and a way of working that feels right to me.

I don’t rush sessions, force horses, or edit to match trends. My editing style is darker, moodier, and shaped by years of refining what feels honest and timeless.

I’m intentional about how I work and how much I take on. Fast for the sake of fast isn’t my goal — creating work that lasts is. That balance allows me to show up grounded, focused, and fully present for every session.

Most of the questions people have — about planning, timing, flexibility, what’s included, and how things actually work — are answered in more detail on my full FAQ page.

If you’re the kind of person who likes to know what to expect before reaching out, you’ll probably find it helpful. If not, we can always talk it through.
